Small Town Holiday Magic: Celebrating the Season in Chelan

As always, the Chelan Valley showed up in a major way to celebrate Halloween this week! The weather held out and it was a perfect way to wrap up October. And of course, with Halloween finished, it means we're onto planning the next festive season, Small Town Holidays!

There's something truly magical about celebrating the holiday season in a small town, where the charm and warmth of the community shine brightly. Chelan offers a picture-perfect backdrop for a Small Town Holiday experience that you won't soon forget. Did you know the Hallmark movie "Christmas is in the Air" was inspired by Chelan's own Small Town Holiday celebration?

The festivities start the day after Thanksgiving and continue through the New Year! As the former Executive DIrector of the Historic Downtown Chelan, I have had a lot of blood, sweat and tears put into Small Town Holiday events, so it holds a special spot in my heart. Below is what I think makes Chelan a wonderful destination for a holiday getaway!

The Tree Lighting Ceremony

The heart of Chelan's holiday celebrations begins with the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Santa's Arrival the day after Thanksgiving. It's a beloved tradition that brings the community together and has been happening as far back as my childhood memory can reach. Held in downtown Chelan, the event is a spectacle of twinkling lights and holiday cheer. Locals and visitors alike gather to witness the lighting of the town's Christmas tree, accompanied by carolers, hot cocoa, and a visit from Santa Claus himself.

One of the highlights of Small Town Holidays in Chelan is the charming downtown shopping experience. It kicks off with Huge Hot Friday sales in Downtown Chelan the morning after Thanksgiving. Strolling along Woodin Avenue, you can find the perfect presents for your loved ones while enjoying the charming storefront decorations and friendly faces of shopkeepers.
